The Tobago Tourism Agency Limited (TTAL) has reaffirmed its support for the Green Key certification programme, underscoring the Agency’s continued commitment to building a tourism sector that is globally competitive, environmentally responsible, and fiscally prudent.

Green Key, led by the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE) in Denmark, is one of the world’s most respected international ecolabels for tourism establishments. Properties seeking certification must demonstrate excellence in areas such as energy and water conservation, waste reduction, sustainable sourcing, guest engagement, and staff training. Annual renewals ensure accountability and continuous improvement.

Through this initiative, TTAL will continue to make the Green Key programme more accessible by offering limited, structured support to help Tobago’s tourist accommodation providers pursue certification. This targeted assistance is intended to lower barriers to entry, while ensuring the programme operates within the Agency’s approved sustainability workplan and budget. It does not constitute grants, sponsorships, or unrestricted financial aid, but rather a measured investment in Tobago’s long-term competitiveness.

Tobago has already achieved notable progress, with its ninth property obtaining Green Key certification in 2024. This milestone highlights the island’s steady advancement as an eco-conscious destination, aligning with the growing demand from travelers worldwide who actively seek sustainable tourism experiences. Green Key certification not only strengthens the reputation of Tobago’s businesses, but also connects them to a global network of more than 7,900 certified establishments across 90 countries.
