Tobago Deepens Market Share and Secures New Trade Opportunities at ITB Berlin
Posted Mar 06, 2026
The Tobago Tourism Agency Limited (TTAL), in collaboration with the Division of Tourism, Antiquities and Creative Industries and key private sector partners, has successfully concluded its strategic mission to ITB Berlin 2026, hosted from March 3rd to 5th in Germany.
Strong Commercial Engagement and Clear Business Pathways
As one of the world’s leading travel trade shows, ITB offered unmatched opportunities to strengthen trade partnerships with tour operators, aviation partners, and travel media across Germany — the largest outbound travel market in Europe. For Tobago, Germany remains a key source market for long haul travel, with potential opportunities for growth in neighboring countries such as Austria and Switzerland. Participation in ITB thus represented a strategic investment as the Agency continues to expand Tobago’s footprint across the German-speaking market, driving measurable gains for the 2026/27 winter season and beyond. Led by Assembly Member Zorisha Hackett, Secretary of Tourism, Antiquities and Creative Industries, the delegation brought together representatives from TTAL and local partners HADCO Experiences, Tropikist Hotel and Beach Resort, and Manta Lodge Hotel and Dive Center, reflecting a coordinated public–private sector presence in market. Over the 3-day event, the Tobago delegation conducted several targeted business meetings with tour operators, online travel platforms and media representatives across Germany, Austria and Switzerland — advancing discussions from initial interest to commercial opportunities. Key outcomes included:
- Securing new trade leads for tour packaging and joint promotional activity with specialist operators focused on dive, eco and soft-adventure travel, aligning with Tobago’s core nature-based strengths;
- Advancing digital marketing collaborations with leading European travel platforms to increase destination visibility, strengthen online storytelling and drive booking conversion ahead of the 2026/27 winter season; and
- Generating new media leads for editorial features, press visits and public relations partnerships to further amplify Tobago’s presence across the German-speaking market.
These results build directly on the foundation established during the successful 2025 roadshow across Berlin, Munich and Frankfurt, where more than 200 travel agents, tour operators and media were engaged. Participation at ITB provided a critical opportunity for follow-through and strengthening trade confidence in Tobago.
Tobago Recognised by Wanderlust Magazine’s “Good to Go List 2026”
ITB Berlin also marked a proud moment for Team Tobago with a special presentation from Wanderlust Magazine, recognising the island’s inclusion on the publication’s prestigious “Good to Go List 2026.” The accolade places Tobago among 26 destinations worldwide identified as offering meaningful and responsible travel experiences in the year ahead. Assembly Member Zorisha A. Hackett, accepted the recognition on behalf of the destination during the event.
Curated by the editors of one of the United Kingdom’s most respected travel publications, the annual list celebrates destinations that inspire curiosity, foster authentic connections and champion responsible travel.
Tobago’s inclusion also reflects the significant milestone approaching in 2026 as the island commemorates the 250th anniversary of the Main Ridge Forest Reserve, internationally recognised as the oldest legally protected rainforest in the Western Hemisphere established specifically for conservation. This landmark anniversary highlights Tobago’s long-standing leadership in environmental stewardship and reinforces the destination’s growing appeal among global travellers seeking authentic experiences, vibrant culture and nature that remains beautifully unspoilt.
Leveraging Tobago’s European Airlift to Unlock the German, Swiss and Austrian Market
Enhanced European connectivity remains central to Tobago’s growth strategy. Strategic discussions were held with Condor, which operates the direct winter service between Frankfurt and Tobago. With the recent expansion of Condor’s regional network, new feeder connections from Berlin, Hamburg, Munich, Zurich and Vienna into the Frankfurt hub now significantly improve access for travellers across Germany, as well as Austria and Switzerland, potential high-value markets for the destination.
With the new inter-city feeder flights, strategic discussions with Condor focused on collaborative marketing initiatives to stimulate early bookings and sustain strong demand across the region for the upcoming 2026/2027 winter season. This enhanced connectivity not only strengthens Tobago’s competitiveness in Europe but also positions the destination as a convenient and compelling long-haul choice for travellers seeking seamless access and authentic Caribbean experiences.
Securing High-Value Media Exposure
ITB Berlin also provided a vital platform for amplifying Tobago’s story through international media. Team Tobago participated interviews and several PR meetings with leading travel trade publications and media houses in Europe including Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung (FAZ), one of Germany’s most respected newspapers whose recent feature on Tobago generated a significant spike in travel interest and flight searches from the German market. These engagements are expected to generate editorial coverage that builds trade confidence, inspires travel consideration, and reinforces Tobago’s positioning as a unique, sustainable Caribbean destination.
