TTAL releases timely “Mask On” video PSA amidst new COVID-19 restrictions
Posted Apr 30, 2021
One day after the announcement of new nation-wide COVID-19 restrictions by the Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago, the Tobago Tourism Agency Limited (TTAL) launched a video PSA appealing to the local public to do their part to curb the spread of the virus.
This latest production by the TTAL is part of its ongoing #MaskOnTobago campaign launched on April 02, 2021, which encourages the use of masks and adherence to COVID-19 health protocols in the island’s tourism sector, and among the general public.
The minute and a half video features TTAL CEO Louis Lewis, Marketing Coordinator Sheena Des Vignes, and various prominent personalities in Tobago’s tourism and cultural arena, making an emotional appeal for Tobagonians to unite and do everything in their power to help curb the spread of COVID-19. As the video message states:
“While this coronavirus pandemic continues to challenge us every day, in every way - especially in tourism - now is not the time to let our guard down.
“I choose to protect myself, my family, my coworkers , my community, and this beautiful place called Tobago, by putting a mask on. Because it’s going to take a united effort to create a safer Tobago for residents, frontline staff, and hopefully very soon, visitors from abroad.
Together, we can do the right thing, by putting our mask on, physical distancing, and following all the recommended safety protocols to fight the spread of this virus. Tobago needs every single one of us to do the right thing, and lead by example, no matter who we are.”
The video also features former senator and cultural icon, Dr. Eastlyn McKenzie; CEO of the Tobago Festivals Commission, Mr. John Arnold; CEO of the Tobago Performing Arts Company, Mr. Elvis Radgman; President of the Tobago Hotel and Tourism Association Mr. Chris James; recording artiste and radio personality Ms. Adana Roberts; tourism entrepreneur Mr. Alex Nedd; and Miss World T&T 2020 aspirant, dancer and choreographer Ms. Ameika Louis.
The #MaskOnTobago video PSA can be viewed on the official website for destination Tobago at www.TobagoBeyond.com/maskon as well as on the Facebook pages for the Tobago Tourism Agency Limited and Visit Tobago.
New COVID-19 restrictions in Tobago
The launch of the Tobago Tourism Agency’s #MaskOnTobago video PSA coincides with the implementation of new restrictions by the Government of Trinidad and Tobago to help mitigate the spread of the virus, and protect the lives of residents.
As announced by Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley in a media conference on April 29, 2021, changes were made to the Public Health Ordinance Regulations with effect from April 30 until May 23, 2021 that include only essential travel allowed between Tobago and Trinidad, the reduction of public service operations to essential services only, and the closure of bars, restaurants, malls and more. This is in addition to existing restrictions such as the closure of beaches, mandatory mask-wearing, and a reduction in public transportation capacity.
