The best places to enjoy a wedding or honeymoon in Tobago

Posted Sep 02, 2020

With beautiful palm-fringed beaches, lush rainforest, serene retreats and sensational sunsets, Tobago is made for romance. The Caribbean island is perfect for weddings, honeymoons, anniversaries and vow renewals, with many hotels offering tailor-made packages for couples of most religious persuasions.

You can tie the knot almost anywhere and, unlike the production-line weddings of some other Caribbean islands, the day is yours alone. The beauty of this unspoilt island is that commercialism has not yet set in and everything can be arranged exactly as you would like it, just for you. Here we suggest some romantic spots, from historic sites with amazing views to sensational beaches and rainforest gems.

Fort King George

The history and heritage of Tobago is evident all around the island with forts, canons, and monuments that pay tribute to the many battles fought over the centuries. Numerous forts and their remains cling to the clifftops, commanding spectacular views out to sea. One of the best-preserved is the British-built Fort King George near Scarborough, dating back to 1777.

Flagstaff Hill

The views here are absolutely amazing: Tyrell’s Bay, with Little Tobago and Goat Island to one side, and to the other Man-O-War Bay, Booby Island, Cambleton Battery and, further out, Sisters Rocks. This superb vantage point was once used by British and French soldiers to spot approaching ships.

Englishman’s Bay

This secluded crescent-shaped beach on the leeward coast is considered one of the island’s most beautiful. Its white sands are edged with a thick tangle of rainforest and the bay feels wonderfully remote – and there is a chance you could have it all to yourself.

Award-winning white-sand beaches, a thatched-roof jetty and a new Heritage Pavilion provide an enchanting setting at Pigeon Point. This is a popular choice for weddings as it’s a quieter part of the heritage park. What you can also expect are blue skies, a lively ambience and enchanting sunsets.

Mount Irvine Bay Resort

Located on a former sugar and coconut plantation overlooking the Caribbean Sea, this is an elegant private hideaway set on 154 acres, adjacent to a world-class 18-hole championship golf course and a picturesque beach framed by coconut palms. A choice of wedding venues include the Robert T Yorke Ballroom, the Jacaranda Restaurant, the Golf Club Terrace, Mount Irvine Beach, Bamboo Hollow and the Seaview Terrace.

Set in lush surroundings a short stroll from one of the best beaches in Tobago are six lovely villas. Add an intimate poolside bar and you have the perfect wedding venue with the sound of the Caribbean Sea rolling to shore.
